Akira

Akira is a very astonishing japanese anime flim made in 1988 form the popular manga. I've always been a fan of anime but this is by far the greatest anime film. I just wish i could this on an IMAX screen where it belongs. Rumor has it that Leonardo Dicaprio will be directing the real time version of Akira, but i think this classic is great how it is. Akira has been referenced in popular culture many times, perhaps adding to its great international popularity. Clips of the film are used in the music video for Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson's song "Scream". In the video for Kanye West's "Stronger" pays homage to Akira by reenacting scenes using CGI.

Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose friend Tetsuo gets involved in a secret government project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo's supernatural power leading to a bloody death. There was a second attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira's secrets were buried 30 years ago.
